Day 5: My Favorite YWiC Memory

Well, week one of YWiC has come to an end. I've had a ton of fun this week and made lots of wonderful memories but I'd have to say that my favorite memory from this week was watching of the presentations today. I really enjoyed seeing what each girl had made this week. Everyone is so creative and talented! Already looking forward to next week. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Day 4: A Paragraph About Space

Alright, today we are supposed to write a paragraph about space using the words hard drive, tape, keyboard, program, and control, so here it goes...

I am vigorously typing on my keyboard hundreds of thousands of miles away from Earth. I never ceases to blow my mind to think that I am up in the International Space Station. The International Space Station! I'm a computer scientist for NASA and a few months ago they asked me to come up here to the Space Station and work on the programming and coding here. This experience has truly been out of this world, no pun intended... actually, yes, pun intended. I hit "control s" to save what I was working on to my hard drive and then glance over at the pictures I have taped up by my monitor. The wall by computer is crowded with photos of my sister, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and, last but not least, my dog. I miss everyone back home so much but I know I taking advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Day 3: Where I'd Go If I Could Travel to Any Place and Time

Today's blog prompt is very difficult for me to decide on one place and one time. I'm a big history lover so there are tons of times and places that I wish I could go back and visit, but I'd have to say I'd most like to go back to early 1960's America. I really love the Kennedy family- especially Jacqueline Kennedy, President John F. Kennedy's wife. I find Jackie Kennedy to be a classic symbol of grace, style, dignity, and strength. I would love to be there during the 1000 day term of President Kennedy and experience what many people call the "Kennedy's Camelot."

Day 2: How I Would Change the World with Computer Science

Okay, so today's blog prompt is "If you could change the world by developing a device using computer science, what would it be and how would it change the world we live in? Describe it in one paragraph." I would want to create some sort of computer game or fun website that teaches kids of all ages healthy eating and lifestyle habits. The proceeds from this would be donated to help end childhood hunger. This would allow me to combine two things that I'm passionate about- computer science and fighting childhood hunger. When children go without meals for whatever reason it not only affects their physical health but it also harms their ability to thrive in school by weakening their short term memory and attention span. The computer game or website that I would create would not only help children learn about how to stay healthy and fit but would also benefit other children's health and education.

Day 1: Someone New That I Met Today

The first day of camp was very fun. I really enjoyed it! I'm sure this is the beginning of a wonderful week filled with lots of learning and many memories. :)

Today I met Eddyann. Her favorite color is purple; her favorite food is enchiladas; and she likes to swim. :)
